Twisted LC photoalignment

A novel photoaligned TN-LCD cell was fabricated by one-step illumination with oblique non-polarized UV light on an empty cell with azo-dye layers coated [Pg.72]

the photoalignment of the azo-dye layer on the bottom substrate was perpendicular to that of the upper one, and LC directors on the top and bottom substrates also became perpendicular. The method provides a simple new way of manufacturing photoaligned TN-LCDs. In-plane switching (IPS-LCD) may benefit from the application of photoaUgnment technology for twisted LC config-mations [21]. [Pg.74]

Perfect electro-optical performance of the photoaligned FLC display with a memorized grayscale has been demonstrated [31-33]. A prototype of a passively addressed passive matrix FLC display based on the photoalignment technique was developed. Recently, photoaligned bistable FLCs with dichromatic (two-color) [34] and almost achromatic (black/white) [35] displays were realized. [Pg.77]

The feasibility of a photoswitchable bistable reflective LCD based on an azodye doped LC film has been successfully demonstrated [42]. Its bright/dark states [Pg.78]

The polarization angle was selected to obtain saturation for LC twist angles of 12° and 62°. The aligning direction of SDl rotates continuously in-plane with the saturation in the direction perpendicular to the polarization of the incident light, while the twist angle of the LC cell changes from 12° to saturation at 62° and vice versa. [Pg.80]
