Turning sun

Silver rain for a turning sun or fire wheel meal powder 16 parts, saltpeter 1, sulfur 1, steel filings 5 parts. [Pg.58]

Nucleation tempering of the stiU molten fat is necessary because the cocoa butter, if left to itself, can soHdify in a number of different physical forms, ie, into an unstable form if cooled rapidly, or into an equally unacceptable super stable form if cooled too slowly, as commonly happens when a chocolate turns gray or white after being left in the sun. The coarse white fat crystals that can form in the slowly cooled center of a very thick piece of chocolate are similarly in a super stable form known in the industry as fat bloom. [Pg.95]

For a space structure of any kind, the main concern will probably be with the coefficients of thermal expansion and the various stiffnesses. Most readers are probably aware from various Space Shuttle problems that the Shuttle gets heated more on one side than the other if it does not keep turning around relative to the sun. During one mission, the payload-bay doors were opened, but could not be closed again. The television commentator said that the doors had expanded and were warped so much that they would not fit back into the opening to be locked... [Pg.390]

Solar Power With improved technology and production methods considerable use is being made of solar power in remote locations. The output of photovoltaic arrays is used to maintain conventional storage batteries in a state of charge. The cathodic protection system is in turn energised from the batteries. It is usual to incorporate sufficient battery storage to accommodate a number of no-sun days. Whilst in theory the capacity of equipment is unlimited, a practical maximum would be ca. SOO W. [Pg.225]

Pressure also varies with atmospheric conditions. For example, molecules in the atmosphere move faster when they are heated by the sun. This in turn causes an increase in pressure that is described by the ideal gas equation ... [Pg.327]

In 1749, D Alembert pointed out that there is a connection between the theory of precession and a figure of the earth. As is well known, precession is caused by the fact that the resultant force of attraction due to celestial bodies, such as Sun and Moon, does not pass through the center of the earth. Correspondingly, there are couple of forces, which tend to turn Earth in such way that the plane of an equator would go through an attracting body and produce a precession. If the earth had a spherical form, then due to spherical symmetry the resultant force passes through the center. However, the spheroidal form does not have such symmetry. Points of the equator or polar axes are exceptions, since the resultant force passes through the earth s center. For all other points this condition is not met. Besides, the position of the resultant force depends also on the distribution of a density inside the earth. Let... [Pg.157]

I do not sleep so well, these days, and wake early. This morning I stood watching the sun rise over the Fosse and Sheriff Hutton village, and listening to more noise of business from below than I have been accustomed to hear so early in these long days. When the sun had risen in all its blind glory, I turned away. [Pg.45]

The country now about us is more open, and to the east, through the mist, burns the sun. We ride west, and I may not yield to my desire to turn aside and seek the light. I long for it, even as lovers souls are drawn to the moon though clouds shadow it. And thus, too, are pilgrims souls drawn through incense smoke to the... [Pg.53]

What should I have answered I did not love him. I had not loved John, but we had been friends. This man—this King—I scarcely knew. As I had said to my father, to desire even so magnificent a man is not to love him, any more than one loves the sun, though we all turn our faces to its rays. If knowing that is wisdom, he was right to say I had it. But I had too the wisdom that said that here at my feet was a prize beyond all dreams, and that I could not—would not—refuse it. [Pg.152]
