Trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride

A reaction which is related to hydroxy-de-diazoniations is the formation of aryl trifluoromethylsulfonic esters (aryl triflates, ArOSC CFs) which became widely used reagents because of their leaving-group properties. The classical method of synthesis by esterification of phenols with trifluoromethane-sulfonic anhydride or -sulfonyl halide is, however, not applicable for the preparation of aryl triflates bearing a (free)...

An optimum yield (76%) of oxoassoanine (203), contaminated with the regioisomer (228 7%) was realised, presumably via the intermediate 229, when a mixture of 227 (1 eq.) and 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyridine (3 eq.) was treated with trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride (5 eq.). Similarly the methylenedioxy analogue of 224 and 225 led to anhydrolycorinone (201) which, on oxidation, provided hippadine (202). 

The synthesis of vinyl sulfoximines via the elimination reactions of P-hydroxy sulfoximines11,12,33,72,78 has been discussed in Section TV. A. The method of Craig33 is particularly useful for the preparation of N-unsubstituted vinyl sulfoximines 210 which can be readily substituted at nitrogen by reactions with a number of reagents (see Section II.A) including trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride (triflic anhydride).33...

Only a few of the radical cations formed in this way dimerize, however, to the corresponding dications. Consequently, in contrast to anionic polymerizations, electron transfers are poor methods of synthesis for living cationic polymerizations to triblock polymers. However, dications can be produced in a single-stage process from trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride with, for example, tetrahydrofuran ...

A typical synthesis claimed by Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals starts with commercial (/ )-binaphthol (BINOL), which is esterified with trifluoromethane sulfonic anhydride in the first step (Scheme 2.139) [22].
