Triantennary glycan

The triantennary glycan structure of the membrane glycoprotein of vesicular stomatitis virus (New Jersey serotype) has been elucidated by Ballou and coworkers215 (see Fig. 38).

Liver diseases. By applying the crossed affino-electrophoresis method, Spik et al. [255,256] have demonstrated that the human serotransferrin glycans are profoundly modified in liver diseases such as viral hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis with a marked increase of triantennary glycans (see also refs. [257-259]).

In 1998, Morten Meldal and coworkers demonstrated the semisynthesis of Asn derivatives of complex-type bi- and triantennary asialo N-glycans [58], After isolation of these oligosaccharides from the glycoproteins fetuin and ribonuclease (RNase) B by hydrazinolysis, the glycans were converted to Fmoc-Asn(oligosaccharide)-OH derivatives with an acetylated sugar part. More recently, Kdn-containing di- and triantennary N-glycan chains were identified in Kdn-gp isolated from rainbow trout vitelline envelope [54] (see Fig. 5). Based on composition and the yield of the carbohydrate chains, about 1000 O-glycans and 60 N-glycans are linked to a 3000 kDa Kdn-gp.
