Triangular cross /3-prisms

If many wavelengths strike the prism simultaneously, each wavelength emerges from the prism at a different angle. In practice, the prism is rotated about an axis perpendicular to the triangular cross-section. A radiation detector is placed at a fixed distance from the prism, so that as the prism rotates, successive wavelengths fall upon the detector. [Pg.148]

In evaluating Debye s factor H (equation 16), the refractive index increment of the solute must be accurately known. This determination is conveniently carried out with the differential refractometer of P. P. Debye (1946), in which the solution is contained in a hollow glass prism of triangular cross section, immersed in a cell containing the pure solvent. The deflection of a light beam passing through the system is a nearly linear function of the refractive index difference n — n0, which may thus be measured to about 0.000,003. [Pg.51]

The three structures with (simple or joined) triple propeller columns can be grouped into a structural series. We denote by n the number of prism propeller columns at the edge of the triangular cross section of the super columns shown in fig. 70. The formula of the joined prism propeller arrangement is then... [Pg.260]

SO when one causes flow in the sol K With convej cnt light the axial cross is dearly observed If the flow takes place through a tube with triangular cross-section then the system behaves as a prism cut from a doubly refracting crystal a monochromatic ray is split into two rays which are oppositely polarized... [Pg.45]

A more complex p helix is present in pectate lyase and the bacteriophage P22 tailspike protein. In these p helices each turn of the helix contains three short p strands, each with three to five residues, connected by loop regions. The p helix therefore comprises three parallel p sheets roughly arranged as the three sides of a prism. However, the cross-section of the p helix is not quite triangular because of the arrangement of the p sheets. Two of the sheets are... [Pg.84]

For the triangular geometry, we consider the adsorption space as being a prism, whose cross section is an equilateral triangle, formed by three semi-infinite walls, each wall consisting of 4 graphite planes. The size of the pore, d, is taken as the diameter of the inscribed circle The axis of the pore runs along the xe (0,/-) coordinate, with L =21 nm and periodic boundary conditions in x. [Pg.393]
