The orifice plates must be cleaned periodically of scraps of papers and bits of rags. In order to prevent such a manual operation, a combined second-phase settler and chlorine contact chamber is protected by a traveling screen. 

The SSWS pump structures must be equipped with safety-grade traveling screens with a screen wash system. The screen mesh size must prevent flow blockage of the pump inlets, and limit ingestion of biofouling, organics, and debris, (see CESSAR-DC, Section 9.2.1.2.1.4). 

In some countries glue continues to be dried in tunnel driers using heat and air which is passed over jelled sheets, stacked on wire nets with air spaces between. Modem driers feed jelled noodles, chips or beads on a continuous traveling screen through heat staged, filtered and conditioned hot air, until the moisture content is approximately 10-15%.
