H20-treated and D20-treated silica gels also indicates that the inaccessible silanols are mainly interior in nature. Inside silica gel s internal cavities, all single silanols are totally surrounded by siloxane (Q4) bridges therefore, protons of these trapped single silanols are able to cross polarize more Si nuclei in Q4 structures (per H) than would be the case with surface silanols. 

There are several technologies for LC-MS analyzers, ion trap, single quadrupole, double quadrupole, triple quadrupole, etc. Although there is no validated conclusion coming from collaborative trials, the best option seems to be triple quadrupole or, even better, ion trap combined with triple quadrupole.
