Transition metals 1.2- dithiones

Ni(sacsac)P(nBu3)Cl (sacsac = pentane-2,4-dithionate) was activated by AlEt2Cl to form a catalytically active species for the oligomerization of ethene and propene. This study is noteworthy in that it uses in situ UV-VIS spectroscopy to monitor the course of the polymerization. In this reaction, the aluminum reagent serves both to activate the transition metal and to scavenge any moisture present. 

Quinoxaline-2,3-dithione, as reported earlier,1 is useful for its coordinating properties with transition metals. The metal complexes of the dithione with Cu, Ni, Zn, Pd, and Pt have been prepared,171 and the spectral properties of the Ni and Pd complexes examined.171,172 UV data indicate that quinoxaline-2,3-dithione (153) is present as such, rather than as 2,3-dimercaptoquinoxaline the highly colored nature of its complexes is attributed to charge transfer.171... 

Toward transition metals, the dithionate ion behaves as a bidentate ligand, and it forms a large number of complexes. 

Fluorinated R groups (C2F5, C6F5, etc.) enhance thermal stabilities and improve volatilization of salicylaldimines, Schiff bases, /3-diketonates, /3-dithiones, and hexadentate macrocyclic complexes of lanthanides, transition metals, and Zn11 for GC separations.45...
