Simonson (1959) proposed a more general framework for soil formation based on four groups of processes additions, transfers, transformations, and removals. A dynamic approach to pedogenesis, building on the perspectives offered by Jenny (1941) and Simonson (1959), can be used to provide a framework for the assessment of soil properties at different spatial and temporal scales.

Pesticides and their metabolic products move through treated plants, soil, water, and air primarily by such interrelated weathering factors as rain, wind, and sunlight. Simple models may be used to study specific mass transfer, transformation, or transport processes, or more rigorous models may be used to study macroscale performance. The SELECT-to-SELECT Transfer transformation is applied interactively to move an operator from a branch in one SELECT to the end of the corresponding branch in the immediately preceding duplicate SELECT. An example of SELECT-to-SELECT Transfer is shown in Figure 3-11, where the shaded operator is moved to the corresponding branch in the previous SELECT if each SELECT will later become a separate pipestage, this moves the shaded operator into an earlier stage.
