Timeline compression

The result of computational chemistry is some potential drug candidates. These can be synthesized using combinatorial or wet laboratory techniques, and then tested with assays. Screening an array of ligands virtually is cost effective and compresses the discovery timeline. Exhibit 3.10 shows a typical workflow process for virtual screening. 

Process chemists will be even more integrated with medicinal chemists as they continue to be more proactive in assisting in the synthesis and the nomination of candidates into development. This becomes even more critical as timelines continue to compress with less time to apply the right science to a synthetic problem. 

Internal pressure has increased to deliver drugs to the market more quickly, thus compressing development timelines to reach new drug applications (NDAs) in less time and potentially with less knowledge. 

A brief timeline for the development of FCVs by Honda is summarized below. Honda initially employed various 60-85 kW Ballard stacks in their initial FCVs such as the FCX-Vl (Metal hydride, 1999), FCX-V2 (Methanol, 1999), FCX-V3 (Compressed H2,2000), FCX-V4 with ultra-capacitors (Compressed H2,2001), and the FCX (Compressed H2, 2002) vehicle that was leased in Los Angeles.
