Tichy, Noel

Jack Welch s opinions about what makes a good manager (business leader is the term Jack prefers) is discussed in an interesting article Tichy, Noel and Ram Charan, Speed, Simplicity, Self-Confidence An Interview with Jack Welch, Harvard Business Review, September-October 1989, pp. 112-120. 

The approach to power being put forward here is therefore essenti ly transformational . Transformational leadership was explained in Chapter 3 as gaining compliance by means of getting others to change their viewpoint, attitudes or beliefs. This concept, which has been developed extensively by Noel Tichy and Mary Ann Devanna (1986), is equally applicable to the use of personal power.
