Thrombus portal vein

Visualization and evaluation of intrahepatic vascular structures is important because hepatoblastomas can invade or compress the portal and the hepatic veins. Absence of the portal branch or presence of a thrombus supports portal vein invasion. Although the inferior vena cava can be invaded, US examination overestimates the incidence of obliteration of this vessel (Siegel 2001a Kuhn et al. 2004). [Pg.145]

Fig. 30.6a-c. Extensive vascular involvement superior demonstration by CPR and VRT. a The axial image demonstrates a large cancer in the body and tail, with compression of the venous confluence, b The CPR image demonstrates the whole tumor (arrows) involving the celiac trunk and a thrombus (arrowhead) in the portal vein, c The volume-rendered image delineates extensive compression of the venous confluence (arrowhead) with subsequent thrombosis of the portal vein... [Pg.413]

Fig. 6.1.14a,b. Haematogenous spread from a gastric carcinoma. The extensive tumour together with thrombus in the splenic vein is shown on (a), whereas (b) demonstrates tumour thrombus in the portal vein as well as a liver metastasis. Note bilateral pleural effusions... [Pg.119]

Fig. 11.5a,b. MR imaging of a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma and tumor thrombus within the right portal vein, a The dynamic liver study obtained at the arterial phase of liver enhancement shows a fan-shaped area of hyperintensity with a broad capsular base corresponding to the THAD in the territory affected by the portal flow interruption, b On the T2-weighted fast spin-echo sequence a tumoral portal vein thrombus is depicted causing vessel enlargement... [Pg.153]
