The thorium double nitrates or nitrato complexes are listed in Table 45, p. 108. Pre-1950 publications are dealt with in Thorium 1955, pp, 323, 329/30, 337, 343/6 and 349/51 and will only be mentioned where appropriate in the current article. 

Hexanitrato Complexes. Alkali metal and ammonium hexanitrato complexes, M2Th(N03)e (M = Rb, Cs, NH4), crystallise from nitric acid solutions containing the appropriate cation and thorium nitrate [1,3 to 7,13]. The caesium salt is also obtained when (N02)2Th(N03)e is reacted with CSNO3. The nitronium complex, (N02)2Th(N03)e, is conveniently obtained by addition of chlorine nitrate to thorium tetrachloride [8] or by the addition of dinitrogen pentoxide to thorium tetranitrate tetrahydrate in anhydrous nitric acid [23]. Treatment with dinitrogen tetroxide results in the formation of (N0)2Th(N03)e [8]. 

Addition of methanolic 2,2 -bipyridine (=bpy) to a solution of thorium in nitric acid-tributylphosphate mixture obtained by electrochemical oxidation of thorium metal yields the unusual complex [ bpyH)3N03][Th N03)6] when the solution volume is reduced in a vacuum [24]. Similar reactions involving 1,10-phenanthroline (= phen) and tetraethylammonium nitrate yield [(phenH)3N03][Th(N03)e] and [N(C2H5)4]2[Th(N03)6], respectively [24].
