The product, prepared from thiourea and 2-bromo-l-(5-nitro-2-furanyl)ethanone followed by acetylation of the intermediate aminothia2ole with acetic anhydride in pyridine (25), is marketed in several countries for both human and veterinary use.

Curious observation were made on attempted condensation of certain phenyl -substituted ethylene oxides with thiourea and related reagents, among them acetamide, benzamide, and thiobarbituric acid. Ktilbene oxide and ethyl epoxy tin nam a te, for example, underwent remarkably ready reduction on treatment with thiourea (Eq, 686), giving itilbene and ethyl cinnamate respectively, together with urea and free sulfur.

Different kinds of nonelectrolytes were also examined for their effect on the CP (Pandya et al., 1993). The effect of different amides on the CP is Lrst considered. Amides such as urea, thiourea, acetamide, and formamide were used each showed an increase in CP (Figure 13.16). The increasing CP effect of ureas and other amides on solutions of nonionic surfactants has been examined before (Han et al., 1989 Briganti et al., 1991). These amides decrease the water structure and thus favor hydration of PEO chain, resulting in an increase in the CP. 

Recent Japanese patents158 relate to the preparation of 2,4,5-trimethylimidazole (and other U-substituted imidazoles) when 3-aminobut-l-yne is refluxed for 5 hours with acetamide. 3-Butynyl-thiourea (39) and 3-butynylurea are converted by concentrated sulfuric acid into 4,5-dimethylimidazole-2-thione (40) and 4,5-dimethyl-2-imidazolone, respectively.
