1 The Polish Chemical Society Comes into Being 

In cities where Clubs of Chemists had previously been active, branches of the society were formed first. The earliest was the Lemberg Branch, established on 1st December 1919, followed by the branch in Lodz (27th March 1920) and, in June 1920, by two more branches in Cracow and Poznan. In Vilna, where the former Russian authorities had disbanded all university-level schools, academic life had to be restored from scratch, and a local branch of the society was only established there in 1924. 

The members included very few representatives of natural sciences other than chemistry (pharmacists, physicians, agricultural engineers) as they could join their respective scientific-professional societies.

which was the most industrialized Polish eity and at the same time laeked university-level institutions. The Lodz branch had been actively involved in research from its early days.
