The Max Delbriick Center in Berlin-Buch

Berlin-Buch has a long tradition as a place for medical science, starting with the foundation of the center at the turn of the century which temporarily comprised hospitals with over 5000 beds. In 1928 the former Kaiser Wilhelm Society established an Institute for Brain Research on what nowadays forms the Max Delbriick Center s (MDC) campus. [Pg.9]

the Academy of Sciences of the German Democratic Repubfic (GDR) founded three research institutes in Berfin-Buch one for Cancer Research, another for Cardiovascular Research and a third one for Molecular Biology. In 1992, due to the German reunification, a new institution was developed from these three institutes - the Max Delbriick Center. It is named after the Berlin-born scientist Max Delbriick who strongly influenced the development of molecular biology. [Pg.9]

Scientists of the MDC cooperate closely with cfinidans of two specialized hospitals in the vicinity the Robert Rossle Cancer Cfinic and the Franz Volhard Chnic for Cardiovascular Disease.
