The Interfacial Kinetic Model

The effects of oil-in-water microemulsions based on various surfactants, [Pg.246]

The reaction media containing self-assembly structures are not homogeneous at the molecular level in that they consist of microscopic domains of water and oil separated by a surfactant film. [Pg.246]

The reaction may occur in either of the two domains as well as at the interface. However, depending on the structural features of the reactants such as 1 and 4-XCgH4CH2Br with X = CH(CH3)2, or C(CH3)3, the reaction can be assumed to be a purely interfacial reaction i.e., no reaction occurs in the bulk phases. [Pg.246]

Even for reactants A (= E) and B (= 4-XC6H4CH2Br with X = C(CH3)3), it is assumed that P wi = Pboi = 1 where P wi and Pgoi represent respective partition coefficients of reactants A and B between bulk phase water (w) and interface (i), as well as between bulk phase oil (o) and interface (i). [Pg.246]

For the reactions occurring in either of the bulk phases (such as water) as well as at the interface, it is assumed that for simplicity the microemulsion is divided into two subvolumes instead of three. The surfactant volume is split between the oil and aqueous subvolumes. (It is [Pg.246]
