The Influence of Water Movement and Flow Speed

This type of corrosion is often found in water tanks of small craft, and in tanks whose water is changed only rarely. In such a situation, an attempt should be made to eliminate the corrosion products using appropriate mechanical means such as brushing or high-pressure water spray. 

In any case, pickling should be avoided, because efiicient rinsing of the interior of a tank is always very difficult the retention of acidic or alkaline pickling chemicals may lead to severe corrosion in recesses. Furthermore, the water should be replaced regularly, for instance every month. In most cases, this will be sufficient for stopping (or slowing down) pitting corrosion.
