The First Wear Tester

Within each test chamber, a stationary quarter-inch diameter polymer pin was mounted superiorly with respect to a sliding, stainless steel plate. The height of each pin was recorded continuously during the test by a height gauge. [Pg.62]

Wear testing rig built at Wrightington, constructed by Harry Craven, which was used to test pins of PTFE and the first UHMWPE. [Pg.63]

Still on display in Wrightington, the rig is only partially assembled today. Inspection reveals a very sturdily constructed apparatus. Craven s pride in his craftsmanship is evident because his name is stamped into the top of the rig. [Pg.64]
