Thallium, reaction + hydrocarbons

The reaction proceeds so nearly to completion that it has been suggested as the basis of a method for the separation of thallium or of the hydrocarbon. [Pg.62]

Aromatic bromides. McKillop, Bromley, and Taylor1 have described a new, simple, general procedure for bromination of aromatic hydrocarbons using thallium triacetate and bromine (CC14). The reaction is remarkable in that a single monobromo product is obtained. Note, however, that the combination of thallium triacetate and chlorine or iodine leads to isomeric mixtures. The method is particularly useful in the case of aromatics that are sensitive to bromine. [Pg.146]

A high-temperature reaction between thallium vapour and hydrocarbons has been reported by Lalancette and Lachance [320]. A number of hydrocarbons which are capable of yielding cyclopentadiene or cyclo-pentadienyl anions in the course of their thermal decomposition produced... [Pg.232]

The action of n-butyllithium in THF at low temperature leads to the anion. After reaction with an electrophilic compound, the hydrolysis can generally be carried out in polar solvents (acetone, alcohols, acetonitrile) in the presence of mercury(II) chloride or oxide and water. In other cases, NBS, - chloramine T, cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate, n-tributyltin hydride, trialkyloxonium tetrafluthallium nitrate or photochemistry can be used. Desulfurization by Raney nickel gives hydrocarbons. ... [Pg.134]

The presence of thallium(0) led to an increase in activity and selectivity of metallic palladium catalysts supported on silica in aldose oxidation reactions. However, silica-supported thallium(0) had no activity by itself (entry 3). ° Similarly, the bimetallic catalyst platinum-thallium/ZSM-5, prepared by impregnation of thallium sulfate and chloroplatinic acid on Zeolite Socony Mobil-5 (ZSM-5), showed greater selectivity in propane aromatisation and almost the same catalytic activity as monometallic thallium/ZSM-5 (entry 4). Similar comparison of vanadium-caesium-copper and vanadium-caesium-copper-thallium catalysts supported on TiOa.SiC demonstrated that addition of thallium improved the catalytic activity in partial oxidation of p-tert-butyltoluene to p-tert-butyl-benzaldehyde (entry The application of solid-supported thallium-based catalysts in different processes includes (a) iron-thallium catalysts in carbon monoxide hydrogenations to form hydrocarbons and alcohols, and catalytic reforming of... [Pg.227]
