Thailand future plans

Thailand [37—[39]. Thailand had plans to develop the petrochemical business, but a severe economic crisis in 1997-1998, with currency devaluation, resulted in project delays and cancellations. Monsanto was in joint ventures with Thai companies to produce ABS resins and acrylonitrile styrenes. In the plans were derivative petrochemical facilities as well as base petrochemical plants. Petrochemicals promises to be a major source of Thailand s future economic growth. Thailand has a domestic supply of natural gas but it is limited. In the future the Thais may have to augment the supplies with imports. Of concern is the fact that the petrochemical industry is located in one area and the plant sizes are small. [Pg.395]
