Tetraquomanganese II bis-p-toluenesulfonate Hydrate

To manganese powder (6.28 g, 114 mmol) in a 250-mL, round-bottomed flask equipped with a reflux condenser is added p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (46.52 g, 245 mmol) and water (150 mL). The mixture is heated to reflux for 1 h. The resulting pale pink solution is filtered through Celite while hot, and the filtrate allowed to cool to room temperature. The deposited white crystals are collected by filtration and dried overnight under vacuum at room temperature. A second crop of white crystals can be obtained by concentrating the mother liquor. Yield 45.3 g (81.3%). [Pg.98]

White [Mn(OH2)4](OTs)2 H20 can be stored indefinitely at room temperature under an inert atmosphere. It is soluble in methanol and water, but is insoluble in acetonitrile and diethylether. [Pg.98]
