TETRILE, Tetranitrometilanilina, Trinitrofenil-metilnitroammine o Tetralite (Tetryl, Amer and CE, British). It is described in Belgrano (Ref 31, pp 272-75). He lists its uses in Gt-Britain and the USA but says nothing about its uses in Italy. In Ref 28, p 349 it is stated that it is used as a component of some expl mixtures, as with TNT, such as Tetritol... [Pg.443]

Tetryl is a widely-used explosive. It is also known under the names of Pyronite, Tetrylit, Tetralite, Tetralita. In England it has been known for some time as Composition Exploding—CE. The incorrect name—tetranitromethylaniline—may sometimes be encountered in the literature. [Pg.40]

Tetralite. Ital for Tetryl. See in Vol 7, II79-L and in this Vol under Tetryl ... [Pg.568]

Tetryl is a synthetic substance that was used to make explosives, mostly during World War I and World War II. It is no longer manufactured or used in the United States. The chemical name for tetryl is N-methyl-N,2,4,6-tetranitroaniline. Other commonly used names are 2,4,6-trinitrophenyl-N-methylnitramine, nitramine, tetralite, and tetril. Stocks of tetryl are found in storage at military installations and are being destroyed by the Department of Defense. Tetryl was frequently manufactured as pellets or powder. Under certain manufacturing conditions, it could exist in the air as a dust. Tetryl is a yellow, crystal-like solid at room temperature. It dissolves slightly in... [Pg.13]

Among the booster explosives, we find trinitrophenylmethylnitramine, commonly called tetryl or tetralite. An outstanding example of an alkylated compound in the field of flavors is vanillin. Alkylation plays a striking part in the preparation of hypnotics, e.g., barbital (Veronal), pheno-barbital (Luminal), and Amytal, rendering them lipoid-soluble. [Pg.806]
