Tetra-decane

Carlson et al. obtained (Z)-9-tricosene 382 by reaction of nonanal 380 with the ylide generated from the phosphonium salt 381 and butyllithium in DMSO 219>220> (Scheme 68). Bestmann et al. 221> synthesized the (Z)-olefin 382 by olefination of tetra-decanal 384, with the ylide generated by treatment of the corresponding phosphonium salt 383 with potassium in HMPA 341 (Scheme 68). 

Of the four non-propellane members of the tetraquinane family, one is a dodecane derivative 482), one is composed of thirteen carbon atoms (483), and two are tetra-decanes (484 and 485). Chemistry relating to these systems is just beginning to evolve and future developments in this area are awaited. 

NMR study of mero-tetrakis-(l-methyl pyridinium-4-yl)-porphyrin with SDS and Triton X-100 indicates that it interacts with SDS and exists as monomeric entities in the anionic SDS micelles. No interaction is observed with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and Triton X-100. The intercalation appears to be due to coloumbic rather than hydrophobic interactions.230 Interactions of water-insoluble mono-para-phenyl-substituted tetraphenyl porphyrins with tetra-decane trimethyl ammonium bromide, SDS and Triton X-100 have been studied by H and l3C NMR spectroscopy in detail.231...
