Given a feasible solution x e S for MCMP, we can test whether or not it is efficient by solving the following single objective problem. 

NOTE If Max W 0, then at least one of the d/s is positive. This implies that at least one objective can be improved without sacrificing on the other objectives.

We also had a good test for efficiency, since all we had to do was run rotation measurements on an appropriately diluted reaction mixture. Our job was to find a phosphane of the appropriate structure. Early on we tried phosphanes with a chiral alkyl side chain, and the asymmetric bias was barely detectable. We felt strongly that, if one wanted to obtain high ee values, the asymmetry would have to be directly on the phosphorus. That is where the action is. 

The assessment procedure follows, in general, the test method for CE marking. In some cases current EN test methods are not able to describe correctly the energy efficiency and emissions of a central heating boiler system as a whole. Several test methods for CE marking are carried out at steady-state and so it is not possible to give a real test for efficiency, emissions, and pollution out in the field for heating systems. 

In industrial continuous distillations plate columns are preferably used [34]. Recent developments of laboratory and semi-technical apparatus have been thoroughly discussed by Stage who has also dealt with the question of systematic tests for efficiency- [35]. The advantages of bubble-cap columns in continuous operation have already been mentioned (cf. chap. 5.2.2.3 Fig. 167). Cyclic operation (Fig. 164) yields efficiencies >150%.

Light-emitting diodes based on polyphenylvinylene conducting pol>mers have benefitted fi om layer-by-layer production of charge-injection layers. Finally, a polymer of nitrosylterffiiophene has been found to yield a si ificant enhancement of charge separation, an important variable in the optimization of these devices(54).
