Data were collected for source rocks and sandstones to provide the basis for material balance calculations. Pertinent source rock data were compiled (published and new data) for the Lower Cretaceous shales and limestones (see columnar section. Fig. 2) in the Wattenberg area, which is the deepest and hottest portion of the basin. Petrologic data were derived from the study of 115 thin sections of sandstones throughout the stratigraphic column. In the Wattenberg area, the LFpper Cretaceous Terry and Hygiene sandstones produce oil at Spindle field and the Lower Cretaceous Niobrara...
