The Michael addition of nucleophiles to the carbon—carbon double bond of maleimide has been exploited ia the synthesis of a variety of linear polymers through reaction of bismaleimide with bisthiols (39). This method has been used to synthesize ethynyl-terminated imidothioether from the reaction of 4,4 -dimercaptodiphenyl ether [17527-79-6] and A/-(3-ethynylphenyl)maleimide (40). The chemical stmcture of this Michael addition imide thermoset is as follows ... [Pg.27]

Alternatively, thermolysis yields the terminal alkene RCH=CH2. Note that, if propene or higher alkenes are u.sed instead of ethene, then only single insertion into Al-C occurs. This has been commercially exploited in the catalytic dimerization of propene to 2-methylpentene-1, which can then be cracked to isoprene for the production of synthetic rubber (cu-1,4-polyisoprene) ... [Pg.260]

In particular, rotaxane dendrimers capable of reversible binding of ring and rod components, such as Type II, pseudorotaxane-terminated dendrimers, can be reversibly controlled by external stimuli, such as the solvent composition, temperature, and pH, to change their structure and properties. This has profound implications in diverse applications, for instance in the controlled drug release. A trapped guest molecule within a closed dendrimeric host system can be unleashed in a controlled manner by manipulating these external factors. In the type III-B rotaxane dendrimers, external stimuli can result in perturbations of the interlocked mechanical bonds. This behavior can be gainfully exploited to construct controlled molecular machines. [Pg.138]

Separation processes, as could be seen from Figure 2.1, position themselves at the back end of the sequence in operations in the mineral processing flowsheet. The front-end operations has been found virtually to terminate with the liberation or the size-reduction processes involving crushing and grinding. It is important to limit the amount of size reduction to that at which adequate liberation is accomplished. The term adequacy is related to the cost involved in comminution and to performance of the concentration methods that follows. The concentration is obtained by separation processes which rely on differences in the properties of the particles, the physical and physico-chemical characteristics of minerals. In this context, it will only be relevant to refer to Table 2.5 which presents a summary of the processes along with the properties of the minerals that are exploited. [Pg.149]

This expression shows that, unlike the terminal velocity of the particle, its initial acceleration is independent of the particle size and depends only on the densities of the solid particle and the fluid. This type of acceleration, known as differential acceleration, may be exploited by designing equipment which provides frequent opportunities for accelerating the particles from rest. If a particle is allowed to accelerate from rest for a brief period of time and then arrested and subsequently allowed to fall once more, the total distance travelled by it will be influenced more by the differential acceleration and, therefore, by the specific gravities of the particle and of the liquid, than by its terminal velocity, or in other words, by its size. In this way, as the preferential movement of dense particles to the bottom of a bed... [Pg.169]

The original FeCl3-catalyzed condensation reaction strategy has been exploited recently by Patel and co-workers for the synthesis of poly(m-carborane-siloxane) rubbers (103) (Fig. 63) in the reactions between dimethoxy-m-carborane terminated monomers and dichlorodimethylsilane.131 They have also synthesized similar polymers... [Pg.63]
