The basic glass tempering furnace will continue to be a roller hearth design utilizing fused silica roiis. Since the rolls are the source of roller wave distortion, tolerances will become tighter. For application in a full convection furnace, the use of hollow rolls would minimize conductive heating and allow more heat control on the bottom surface of the glass. [Pg.139]

Referring to the hardware in Figure 5—4, there are much larger facilities required for heavier liquids cracking than for ethane or propane. As you saw in Table 5—1, the yield of ethylene from the heavier feeds is much lower than from ethane. That means that to produce the same amount of ethylene on a daily basis, the gas-oil furnaces have to handle nearly five times as much feed as ethane furnaces. As the design engineer scales up these volumes, he or she has to worry about the size of the cubes necessary to heat up that much feed, the residence times best for each kind of feed, and the best pressure/temper-ature/steam mixture conditions. [Pg.72]

Peuckner adopts a somewhat modified process. Sulphide of sodium is prepared by igniting sulphate of soda with charcoal powder. This is dissolved In water, some free sulphur is added, the liquid Is concentrated, mixed With one half per cent, of sulphate of iron and twenty-five per cent, of a well-tempered day—the purer and whitar the better—the mixture evaporated to dryness, the residue powdered, and ignited for an hour in a cupelling furnace when cold, it is extracted with water, the residue dried, powdered, and once more heated in a muffle, when the required tint appears. [Pg.1073]

In the previous experiment, where the effect of cobalt contents on steel tensile strength was researched, we are now trying to find out the effect of three percentile contents of cobalt on this response if each alloy was tempered in each of four furnaces. Twelve alloy batches were divided into three samples each, so that the tensile strength for 36 samples were measured. These values in thousands of PSI for measurements or determinations are shown in Table 2.51. Do the analysis of variance. [Pg.233]

Out of a certain purple Earth, so tempered and effected by the vapour and breath of the earth, that it is fruitful of gold, and in many places gold is melted out of it in the furnace. [Pg.59]

Place the file in a forge or bury it in a roaring bed of live coals in a furnace or stove and bring to a white beat. Remove and let cool gradually. This will leave just the right temper. [Pg.77]
