Tempered chart

A further complication arises with the application to temperate conditions of room air-conditioners which have heen designed primarily for tropical markets. These units typically work with a sensible/total heat ratio of 0.7. Plotting this process line on the psychrometric chart (see Figure 35.3) shows that the ADP will he about 9°C. 

Overall, however, the immensity of temperate land corresponds to a most various secondary metabolic production, different from that of tropical land. The most renowned alkaloids belong to the morphine class (Chart 6.2.A1), and, in combination with isoprenoids, to the ergot and triterpene classes (Chart 6.2. A2). Prominent in the peptides are the cyclosporins (the first of which was isolated from a fiingus collected in Norway), streptogramins, and P-lactams (Chart 6.2.P). The isoprenoids are represented by pyrethrin monoterpenes, cedrane sesquiterpenes, ginkgolide and taxane diterpenes, ophiobolane sesterterpenes, and arborane and amyrin-like triterpenes (Chart 6.2.1). In the polyketides, epothilones, recently discovered from Myxobacteria, and the long known rapamycin, are two prominent classes of macrolides (Chart 6.2.FA/PO/C).

The Mediterranean has also given peculiar triterpenes of squalene origin and an unusual cyclized cembranoid, coralloidolide C (Chart 7.5.A/I/PO). The latter resembles diterpenoids from tropical octocorals, indicating that these cnidarians, on migration to temperate waters, have conserved genes for secondary metabolites. 

I found this once, when we were staying near Fort Casey on a cold December evening. It was the lull between Christmas and New Year s Day, when everyone else was home. I was exhausted when I walked out to the shore, and I wanted to be alone. Going on vacation is supposed to be relaxing, but with four boys under the age of 12, it had required too much from me to temper their chaos. They spread out so much energy that their energy rate density must have been off the charts.
