Sihcon hahdes can be easily prepared by the reaction of sihcon or sihcon alloys and the respective halogens (24). Fluorine and sihcon react at room temperature to produce sihcon tetrafluoride. Chlorine reacts with sihcon exothermahy, but the mixture must be heated to several hundred degrees centigrade to initiate the reaction (25). Bromine and iodine react with sihcon at red heat. 

Many materials have been deposited by PECVD. Typically, the use of a plasma allows equivalent-quaUty films to be deposited at temperatures several hundred degrees centigrade lower than those needed for thermal CVD techniques. Often, the plasma-enhanced techniques give amorphous films and films containing incompletely decomposed precursor species such as amorphous siUcon (i -Si H) and amorphous boron (i -B H). 

Crystallographic investigation revealed nickel-spinnel formation of the catalyst with the alumina carrier. This needed one hundred or more degrees Centigrade higher temperature than any thermocouple ever indicated. 

The refractive indices of most essential oils have been given under each oil in Volume I. if a temperature correction is required, as it frequently is, the addition of 0-0C04 for each degree centigrade by which it is necessary to reduce the temperature, and a similar subtraction for a rise of 1°, should be made. This figure varies slightly, but unless accuracy to the fifth place of decimals is required, it is sufSciently accurate for practical purposes. 

General ventilation is designed to keep air temperatures within a few degrees Centigrade of the outside shade temperature over the majority of the floor area. The ventilation rate required, which is not directly related to the space floor area or volume, is calculated from the formula ... 

There are great advantages to an absolute temperature scale that has its zero point at — 273°C. Whereas the zero of temperature in the Centigrade scale is based upon an arbitrary temperature, selected because it is easily measured, the zero point of the absolute scale has inherent significance in the kinetic theory. If we express temperatures on an absolute temperature scale, we find that the volume of a fixed amount of gas (at constant pressure) varies directly with temperature Also, the pressure of a fixed amount of (at constant volume) varies directly with temperature. And, according to the kinetic theory, the kinetic energy of the molecules varies directly with the absolute temperature. For these reasons, in dealing with gas relations, we shall usually express temperature on an absolute temperature scale.
