Tellurium tetrachloride (as well as tellurium tetrabromide and tellurium tetraiodide) reacts with 4 mol equiv of arylmagnesium bromide, giving rise to diaryl teUurides in high yields. ... 

The aryl derivatives, which are not easily accessible from tellurium tetrabromide and tetraiodide, are therefore prepared by this route. 

The halogenolysis of dialkyl ditellurium compounds is a convenient method for the preparation of alkyl tellurium trihalides because dialkyl ditellurium compounds are easily accessible through alkylation of disodium ditelluride (p. 258). Diaryl ditellurium compounds generally obtained via reduction of organo tellurium trichlorides (p. 274), serve as starting materials for the syntheses of aryl tellurium tiibromides and triiodides (Vol. IX, p. 1156) that are not obtainable from the hydrocarbons and tellurium tetrabromide or tetraiodide. 

Carbon ditelluride has not yet been prepared. Attempts to prepare this compound from carbon tetrachloride and hydrogen telluride, carbon tetrabromide or tetraiodide and silver telluride, carbon and tellurium2, or dichloromethane and tellurium3 were unsuccessful. The claim of the preparation of carbon ditelluride by sputtering tellurium from a tellurium/graphite electrode in a DC-arc under carbon disulfide4 was withdrawn5.
