Klugman and Sheppard (Air Pollut. Control Assoc. Prepr. 75-30.3) have developed an ionizing wet scrubber in which the charged mist particles are collected in a grounded, irrigated cross-flow bed of Tellerette packing. Particles smaller than 1 pm have been collected...

Assume HTUog = 0.6 m with maximum packing height 12 m. Superficial gas velocity 1 m/s and/or superficial density-weighted velocity E-factor of 0.6 to 3.5 m/s (kg/m )°. Use 2.5-mm Pall rings or Tellerettes of metal or plastic. 

The relatively high separating efficiency of packings made of plastic material with a low wettability is interpreted by Teller [138] as resulting from the formation of an interstitial hold-up due to the low energies of adhesion involved c,f. chap. 4.2). This hold-up extends the residence time of the liquid phase in the column. Teller s polyethylene Tellerettes (Fig. 356) yield a relative free vohune of 83%. They are shaped such that the two phases encounter relatively small solid surfaces by which they are divided and diverted. 

Manholes shall be available for easy removal of internals such as spray nozzles and pipes and tower packings (single and double partition rings, tellerette rings) for cleaning and replacement if necessary. 

Tower packing Intalox saddles, tellerette rings, and pall rings may be considered. 

Randomly packed Raschig rings, saddles, slotted rings, Tellerettes, Maspac.
