The first isolation of nucleosides from sponges dates from the 1950 s. 1-Methylisoguanosine (290), which has been isolated from a nudibranch, was also found in the sponge Tedania digitata 176, 177). Synthesis by two routes confirmed the structure of this product which had a number of pharmacological properties.
