In the chemical industry, many processes are operated at reduced pressure (between 2000 Pa and atmospheric pressure). Liquid ring pumps, which are displacement pumps, are widely used for pressure reduction. The working liquid of a liquid ring pump must perform the functions of a piston, a seal, and a heat absorber. [Pg.45]

A measure of the degree of contamination is given by the content of halogen compounds that can be adsorbed from the acid by activated carbon (AOX content). In nearly all chlorination reactions the chlorine is incompletely consumed, so that a fluctuating proportion of free chlorine usually occurs Iwth in tfie hydrochloric acid recovered from the residual gases from the chlorination process and in the waste gases. [Pg.47]

This free chlorine is as undesirable as other impurities in both the waste gas and the hydrochloric acid, and must be removed for environmental reasons and to improve acid quality. [Pg.47]
