Technology encoding

Flow meters have traditionally been classified as either electrical or mechanical depending on the nature of the output signal, power requirements, or both. However, improvement in electrical transducer technology has blurred the distinction between these categories. Many flow meters previously classified as mechanical are now used with electrical transducers. Some common examples are the electrical shaft encoders on positive displacement meters, the electrical (strain) sensing of differential pressure, and the ultrasonic sensing of weir or flume levels. 

Erom a technology perspective, knowledge-based systems (KBS) represent a new software methodology for solving certain types of problems effectively. It is important to understand what is encoded in knowledge-based systems, and how KBS technology differs from conventional numeric computational techniques. 

Recombinant DNA technology can also be used to design genes that encode for proteins with desired features [34]. The gene can be incorporated into a plasmid, which is then used to transform a bacterial host such as Escherichia coli. Finally, the production of the desired amino acid polymer is performed by the host with a precisely defined sequence and near absolute monodispersity [29, 35].

An additional example includes the intracellular transcription and translation of virally encoded genes during intracellular viral replication. In all such instances, the medical consequences of such inappropriate gene (over)expression could be ameliorated/prevented if this expression could be down-regulated. A nucleic-acid-based approach to achieve just this is termed antisense technology .
