Tattoo

Laser removal of tattoos and of colored birthmarks has been widely studied. A high power pulsed laser at a wavelength absorbed by the pigment is used to vaporize the pigment and to bleach the colored area. Ruby, Nd YAG, and dye lasers are favored for this purpose.

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) handles questions concerning the safety of consumer products (nonfood products intended for the consumer). In particular, the Committee addresses questions in relation to the safety and allergenic properties of cosmetic products and ingredients with respect to their impact on consumer health, toys, textiles, clothing, personal care products, domestic products such as detergents, and consumer services such as tattooing (EU 2006f). 

As a result of this growing acceptance of scarcity, explicit prioritisation is becoming an increasingly common feature of the British NHS. There is no perfect system for identification of animals. Tattoos and color codes frequently fade and may need to be redone after 3 to 5 months. Toe clips and ear punches are occasionally obliterated by self-mutilation or mutilation by cage mates. Ear tags and collars fall off and need to be replaced. Cage cards can be lost or destroyed. Whatever system or combination of systems of animal identification are selected by a laboratory, the shortcomings of the selected sys-tem(s) must be recognized, and procedures must be developed to address those shortcomings.
