Target charge

Bum or scorch marks on HE or target charge retains integrity... [Pg.341]

When the vidicon is in operation, the electron beam is made to scan the target, charging the p-type islands to the potential of the electron gun. Because the n-type wafer is maintained at ground potential, the photodiodes are reverse-biased, causing the depletion zone formed at the pn-junction to increase in size. [Pg.42]

The geometry of the experiment is shown in fig. 11.14. The axis of quantisation z is the direction of the light beam. The atomic sodium beam is incident in the x direction and the electron beam in the y direction. The schematic diagram also shows the 3px and 3py lobes of the target charge cloud for the 3pi substate. The scattering plane is the zy plane so that the component px of the recoil momentum p is observed in noncoplanar-symmetric kinematics. Because of the finite angular resolution of the spectrometer the components py and pz are of the order of 0.06 a.u. rather than zero. [Pg.308]

Besides standard designs special GDC designs have been developed for registration of charge patterns upon the electrostatic paper with thermoplastic potential layers with an input semiconductor target, with a microchannel plate at the input and so on. The GDC design provided the basis for series production of GDC with maximum dimensions (500 x 600 mm ) and a service life above 5000 hours. [Pg.540]

Ernest O. Lawrence, inventor of the cyclotron) This member of the 5f transition elements (actinide series) was discovered in March 1961 by A. Ghiorso, T. Sikkeland, A.E. Larsh, and R.M. Latimer. A 3-Mg californium target, consisting of a mixture of isotopes of mass number 249, 250, 251, and 252, was bombarded with either lOB or IIB. The electrically charged transmutation nuclei recoiled with an atmosphere of helium and were collected on a thin copper conveyor tape which was then moved to place collected atoms in front of a series of solid-state detectors. The isotope of element 103 produced in this way decayed by emitting an 8.6 MeV alpha particle with a half-life of 8 s. [Pg.215]

At the target, clusters are broken up and sample molecular ions, accompanied by some remaining solvent ions, are extracted by an electrical potential through a small hole into the mass spectrometer analyzer (Figure 11.1), where their mass-to-charge (m/z) ratios are measured in the usual way. The mass spectrometer may be of any type. [Pg.72]

ThSiO "Th and Th are present in naturally occurring uranium Th and Th occur in uranium minerals as members of the decay chain. The remaining isotopes are formed upon neutron bombardment of those isotopes discussed, or by charged particle bombardment of various targets. [Pg.35]
