The observed dielectric constant M and the dielectric loss factor k = k tan S are defined by the charge displacement characteristics of the ceramic ie, the movement of charged species within the material in response to the appHed electric field. Discussion of polarization mechanisms is available (1). 

In ellipsometry two parameters are determined. These are A, the phase angle between the leading and trailing components in Fig. 27.24, and the ratio of the electric field amplitudes E and E, which defines the second parameter, /. IE I/IEJ = tan /. A and r may be recorded as functions of other experimental variables, such as potential and time. 

Its compounds are used for high-temperature electrical equipment, for tanning leather, as a mordant (fixes the dyes in textiles so that they will not run), and as an anti chalking agent for paints. 

PE cannot be heated in a high-frequency electric field for, e.g., welding films. Special tricks are then needed, such as coating the film with a thin layer of a polymer with a higher tan 5.
