System Safety Organization

Most major DOD agencies and contractors involved in the traditional weapons and aerospace programs have internal system safety organizations to plan and implement system safety efforts. The majority of the nation s system safety engineers tend to work for these organizations and, by and large, provide the membership for the System Safety Society. 

The purpose of the system safety program plan (SSPP) is to identify the specific system safety requirements for a given project, to include specified system safety tasks, risk assessment methodology and risk acceptance criteria, system safety products and milestones, and system safety organization. 

System Safety Organization. The names, titles, organizations, addresses, and telephone numbers of persons assigned to the SSWG, individuals in the review cycle, key support personnel, and other individuals involved in the system safety effort are listed. 

A system safety organization is a key component of an SSP it is responsible for performing the necessary system safety tasks to design and build safety into a product or system design. The number of individuals in the organization depends upon many factors, such as project size, system complexity, system safety-criticality, and funding. 

A system safety organization exists for the purpose of conducting an SSP. 

Describe the system safety organization or function within the organization of the total program using charts to show the organizational and functional relationships, roles and responsibilities, and lines of communication.
