A hydrolysis of seven tons of phthaloyl chloride that was carried out in a herbicide synthesis workshop went out of control and detonated, causing the workshop to be destroyed.

The filter example [DeDN85] is a benchmark for the high-level synthesis workshop series. It contains 26 additions and 8 multiplications. The control flow consists of one single loop without mutual exclusive operations. 

Special ChemActivities called Synthesis Workshops are devoted to helping students understand the arts of Synthesis and Retro-synthesis, and are reinforced by a dramatically expanded array of synthesis practice problems placed throughout the book. 

Hercules and Hebe have been applied to the design examples in the benchmark suite proposed by the High-level Synthesis Workshop [Wor89]. Most of these benchmark examples have been rewritten in HardwareC and synthesized to logic-level implementations.
