For the first time I tried to teaeh about chemical synthesis reactions by challenging students with a question whether, aeeording to their opinion, the synthesis of water could be used as an energy souree for vehieles. The elassroom discussion was then led towards reading newspaper artiele dealing with the topies, which proved to be a good motivation for students. [Pg.320]

Similar structures were later employed to create original dendronized polymers 485 and 486, based on a chitosan backbone and using such sialodendrons as 484 (Fig. 50).328 Chitosan itself is nontoxic, biodegradable, and has widespread biological activities, but major intrinsic drawbacks such as low solubility in both organic solvents and water have hampered its development as a bioactive polymer. Thus, the synthesis of water-soluble... [Pg.306]

Strictly speaking, all chemical reactions are reversible, but when the extent of the reverse reaction is immeasurably small and, consequently, the transformation as a whole proceeds practically in one direction only, the reversibility is neglected. The synthesis of water from its elements is a reaction of this kind. But we should nevertheless bear in mind that already at +2000° the opposite reaction (decomposition) takes place to such an extent that we must use the equation ... [Pg.142]

Oxireductases in the Enzymatic Synthesis of Water-Soluble Conducting Polymers... [Pg.4]

The use of enzymes as biocatalysts for the synthesis of water-soluble conducting polymers is simple, environmentally benign, and gives yields of over 90% due to the high efficiency of the enzyme catalyst. Since the use of an enzyme solution does not allow the recovery and reuse of the expensive enzyme, well-established strategies of enzyme immobilization onto solid supports have been applied to HRP [22-30]. A recent work reported an alternative method that allows the recycle and reuse of HRP in the biocatalytic synthesis of ICPs. The method is based on the use of a biphasic catalytic system in which the enzyme is encapsulated by simple solubilization into an IL. The main strategy consisted of encapsulating the HRP in room-temperature IPs insoluble in water, and the other components of the reaction... [Pg.14]
