Swelling glue

The exterior durability of softwood veneer species in this country has been demonstrated. There have been some difficulties encountered in the long term exterior durability of some Asian veneer species when bonded with phenolic resins. Extractives interfering with the cure of the resin directly or the resin bonded to the extractives rather than the wood cause failures along the glue line. These species shrink and swell more than native softwoods. Stresses are greater and breaks in the wood hydrogen... 

Absorption of the adhesive into the surface. The glue should then contain a solvent which swells the plastic substrate. The glue can then penetrate into the surface, and, after evaporation of the solvent, it adheres well to the surface. As a gluing agent a solution of the same polymer is sometimes used. 

In Table V, the mechanical properties of particleboard bonded with nonemulsifiable diisocyanate modified with maize starch are given. The extender content for the diisocyanate was up to 20%. However, with increasing extender content, the internal bond of the boards decreased, and the thickness swelling increased the boards had V100 quality. First tests with adhesives of diisocyanates and starch were encouraging, and more attempts in developing new glue formulations... 

Pnlyaeryiamide resins. Like "super glue." these resins swell hcitcT in polar solvents and. since they conruin amide bonds, more closely re.seinhle hiological materials. 

Animal Different kind of binders that don t swell up as much and/or less/different glue. 

Paste is an adhesive in the form of an aqueous swelling product that, in contrast to glues, forms a nonropey, high-viscosity mass already at low basic material concentrations.
