It is also apparent that the exponential growth in electricity consumption per capita cannot be sustained world wide indefinitely. The economic growth of the world depends strongly on the availability of electricity and transportation. Therefore, it behooves the world population to use the most appropriate technologies to seek the optimum mixture of available large-scale energy resources to provide the most sustainable supply of electricity and transportation fuels. 

Many analyses reach the conclusion that nuclear energy has a strong role to play, particularly if the goal is truly sustainable development, not just temporary economic growth. For example, the IPCC projection [2] indicates a 2.5 times median growth of nuclear power by 2030, see Fig. 2. The IAEA s Nuclear Technology Review (2005 update) [5] projects a 34% to 86% increase of nuclear generation by the year 2030. 

Although the acronym has been referenced by many economists, it did not receive much attention before the deep economic recession of 2008-2010. By the third quarter of 2010, the BRIG economies took on new significance as they had sailed through the recession, almost as if it never happened. As predicted, their GDP growth was strong and sustained, thus supporting the concept of the new economic model. Meanwhile, the industrialized, developed economic powerhouse nations suffered deeply.
