Suspending agents magnesium aluminum silicate

A study was made of the comparative stabilities at various exposures of an upset stomach remedy suspension. This product consisted of a dispersion of bismuth subsalicylate and phenylsalicylate in an aqueous system. Methyl-cellulose and magnesium aluminum silicate were selected as the suspending agents, because the presence of polyvalent metallic ions precluded the use of hydrocolloids affected by these ions. In addition, it was found that methyl-cellulose contributed a demulcent effect. The viscosity, as well as the suspension characteristics of the combination of protective colloids used, was of a synergistic nature. These colloids formed a thixotropic system. The thixotropy undoubtedly aids in stabilizing this system. In order to make this product palatable and impart elegance, color and flavor were added. Sample 1 (with protective colloids) showed no separation, while sample 2 (without... [Pg.87]

Suspending agent systems such as a pseudoplastic (sodium carboxymethylcellulose) in combination with a clay (hydrated colloidal magnesium aluminum silicate) or blends and coprecipitates of sodium carboxymethylcellulose and microcrystalline cellulose exhibit some thixotropic flow characteristics. Other pseudoplastics such as hydroxyethylcellulose or hydroxy-propyl methyl cellulose may be required to overcome possible in compatibilities with sodium carboxymethylcellulose. [Pg.3605]

Macaloid . [Rheox] Magnesium aluminum silicate suspending agent thickener, emulsion stabilizer, rheological additive for creams and totions. [Pg.219]

Magnabrite . [Am. Colktid] Magnesium aluminum silicate stabilizo suspending agent for cosmetics, pharma-ceutio, housdiold and industrial spe-cialties, e.g., paints and cleaning compds. [Pg.220]

This formulation features Van Gel ES. magnesium aluminum silicate, as a suspending agent and rheology modifier. The sodium hypochlorite functions as a disinfectant, cleaning agent and bleach. Sodium metasilicate adjusts the formula pH. The phosphate blend provides detergency and the surfactants contribute excellent rinsability. [Pg.39]
