Surge intermediate

Fibrous or particulate filters are not important anymore because membrane filters are relatively compac t and perform veiy well. For filtration by straining, there is an intermediate air velocity at which filtration efficiency is a minimum because different collec tion mechanisms predominate at different ranges of velocity. At low velocities, diffusional and elec trostatic forces on the particle are important, and increased velocity shortens the time for them to operate. At high velocities, inertial forces that increase with air velocity come into play below a certain air velocity, their effect on collection is zero. Surges or brief power failures could change velocity and collection efficiency. 

These ratings are applieable to generators which are direetly eonnected to the transformers without intermediate breakers and where adequate surge proteetion is provided. The requirements are in line with or in excess of the required withstand values of the generator. 

Less explored is the role and metabolic fate of 2-AG. It is possible that in many tissues, 2-AG is only an intermediate of a signaling pathway that generates 1,2-diacylglycerol and arachidonic acid, two well-known signaling molecules. In the brain however, 2-AG may have regulatory roles, since it escapes immediate metabolism and accumulates in response to stimuli-generated Ca2+ surges (Stella, 1997). These differences may arise... 

The stimulus for the recent surge of activity in this previously dormant area of organic chemistry can be traced to the prostaglandin connection . That is to the discovery that saturated bicyclic peroxides are key intermediates in the biosynthesis of prostaglandins and other physiologically active substances by the enzymatic oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids. 

The number of patents detailing processes that involve DPC as an intermediate to polycarbonates, polyurethanes and organics bears witness to the importance of this molecule in the production of industrial polymers and molecules (Figure 7.5a). The data in this figure also underline the recent surge in open-literature reports, a trend which was also apparent for the synthesis of DPC from DMC (Figure 7.5b).
