Surface monitoring

Surface Monitoring Contact (or Rodac) plates of growth media are applied to surfaces such as bench tops, walls, and personnel and then incubated. Colony-forming units (cfu) are counted and identified. [Pg.414]

Of these eight types of samplings, only two (swab and rinse sampling) have been accepted and included in regulatory guidelines. A third type, direct surface monitoring, offers promise of future acceptance once fully mature methods and instruments are available. [Pg.273]

Fig. 4.10 Dissociation of NO on the Rh(100) surface monitored in real time by temperature-programmed SIMS and desorption (TPSIMS and TPD), showing the desorption of N2 and NO, and Rh2(NO)+/Rh2+ and Rh2N+/Rh2+ TPSSIMS ion intensity ratios, representing the surface coverages of NO and N-atoms respectively, at low, middle and high initial NO coverage. (Adapted from [38]). Upon completion of the chamber test, the hardwood plywood paneling or particleboard is removed and 12 each 7.00cm x 12.7 cm specimens are randomly cut from each board loaded into the chamber. For the surface monitor (FSEM) and the small scale test chamber(SSTC), one 30.5cm X 30.5cm board is cut from each board loaded in the chamber. These samples are immediately tested by the Equilibrium Jar for particleboard or the Two Hour Desiccator or FSEM or SSTC for all wood product types. The values obtained from each test are averaged and are then compared to the chamber concentration observed for that loading and air change rate. [Pg.178]

There are three basic methods which have been employed for evaluation of microbiological content on surfaces. These include ROD AC (Replicate Organism Detection and Counting) plates, swab testing, and agar overlay or rinse techniques. RODAC plates are the most commonly used of the surface monitoring methods. However, they are not suitable for irregular surfaces, in which case swab techniques are used. [Pg.629]
