Surface Analysis of Plastics

There are a number of analytical techniques that can be used to obtain data on the surface of plastics materials or products. Three of the techniques, IR and Raman microscopy and Edax are covered in Sections 2.2.1, 2.2.6 and 2.6. It can be argued that these techniques have come into being as the logical development of the original, general purpose techniques. 

There are however a number of analytical instmments that have been developed with the specific intention of analysing surfaces. Three of the principal ones will be mentioned in this section.
