Supreme Truth

Antonin Artaud (1896-1948) was a philosopher and glossolaliac who consumed peyote with the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico. He believed that peyote triggers the brain to remember supreme truths difficult to obtain by other means. While using peyote, he saw shapes rise from his belly that looked like the letters of a very ancient and mysterious alphabet. The letters J and E in particular rose and glowed fiercely. [Pg.71]

The Aum Shinrikyo is a cult centered in Japan. Their name is a combination of Aum which is a sacred Hindu syllable, and Shinri Kyo which means "supreme truth". It appears to be a syncretistic religion, founded in 1987, and com-... [Pg.93]

The AUM Shinrikyo (in Japanese, "the supreme truth") cult or sect is accused of all the nerve gas attacks which happened in Japan in 1994 and 1995. This cult was founded in 1987 by Shoko Asahara (real name Chizuo Matsumoto), who was bom in 1955. AUM Shinrikyo is the world s largest militant Buddhist sect. It is a doctrine that Asahara learned from Soka Gakkai, a Buddhist sect... [Pg.102]

If the E = hv of quantum theory is one begniling-ly simple later advance in the concept of energy, the supremely famous mass-energy law E = me" is another. This and its import for nuclear energy are usually credited solely to Einstein. The truth is more interesting. [Pg.1035]

An independent synthesis is devoid of these shortcomings. The structure confirmed by this route can be considered to be an absolute truth no less than if established by a trustworthy Supreme Court. [Pg.22]

Mathematics, rightly viewed, possess not only truth, but supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture. [Pg.172]

Mathematics possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty. [Pg.181]

Mathematics possesses not only truth, hut supreme beauty—a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show. [Pg.184]

Others, though content that treaties should be made in the mode proposed, are averse to their being the supreme laws of the land. They insist and profess to believe, that treaties, like acts of assembly, should be repeal-able at pleasure. This idea seems to be new and peculiar to this country, but new errors as well as new truths often appear. These gentlemen would do well to reflect that a treaty is only another name for a bargain and that it would be impossible to And a nation who would make any bargain with... [Pg.315]

It is curious to observe with what vehemence this part of the plan is assailed, on the principle here taken notice of, by men who profess to admire without exception the constitution of this state [i.e.. New York] while that constitution makes the Senate, together with the chancellor and judges of the supreme court, not only a court of impeachments, but the highest judicatory in the state in all causes, civil and criminal. The proportion, in point of numbers, of the chancellor and judges to the senators, is so inconsiderable, that the judiciary authority of New-York in the last resort may, with truth, be said to reside in its senate. If the plan of the convention be in this respect chargeable with a departure from the... [Pg.322]
