Suppurative dermatitis

Skullcap is known to have anticonvulsant and sedative properties. Traditionally, it has been used for epilepsy, chorea, hysteria, nervous tension states, and specifically for grand mal. In Chinese herbal medicine, the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi have been used traditionally as a remedy for inflammation, suppurative dermatitis, allergic diseases, hyperlipidemia, and atherosclerosis.

In Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine [6-8], Polygonum cuspidatum is used to treat hyperlipemia, suppurative dermatitis, gonorrhea, favus,... 

Recorded use in China dates back at least 2000 years. Traditionally considered slightly bitter and cold used to treat arthritic pain, jaundice shi re huang dan), amenorrhea, abdominal mass (zheng jia), cough with excessive phlegm, traumatic injuries, skin sores and boils, and bums and scalds (chp) also used in Japan to treat suppurative dermatitis, gonorrhea, favus, athlete s foot, and hyperlipemia. ... 

Six patients suffered from microbic eczema and dermatitis developing around the suppurative wounds. After application of l-(chloromethyl)silatrane for three times perifocal phenomena completely disappeared. 

It is concluded that the l-(chloromethyl)silatrane ointment is effective in treating microbial eczema and dermatitis accompanying suppurative wounds. The application of this ointment in treatment of trophic ulcers and suppurative wounds has no advantage over widely used antiseptic preparations. 

As with interferon alfa, pegylated interferon alfa has been associated with injection site skin necrosis (285). Severe local reactions after subcutaneous injections mostly consist of ulceration and skin necrosis, but a variety of reactions have been described. Prominent suppuration and granulomatous dermatitis at the injection sites of interferon alfa have been reported in two patients (286). Three patients who had severe rashes while receiving pegylated interferon alfa-2a or 2b had positive intracutaneous tests to both pegylated forms of interferon alfa but not to standard interferon alfa-2a or 2b (287). One of these patients subsequently tolerated standard interferon alfa. Cutaneous ulcers have also been reported in patients treated with peginterferon alfa-2b (288,289). In the latter case, the lesions healed under local therapy and the same dose of interferon was maintained.
