Sulfur Sulfuration

Schwefel-. of sulfur, sulfur, sulfuric, sulfide of, thio-. siilfo-. -abdruck, m. sulfiir print, -alkali, n. alkali siilfide. -alkohol, m. siilfur alcohol, thiol carbon disulfide (old name), -ammonium, -ammon, n. ammonium sulfide, -antlmon, n. antimony sulfide, -antimonblei, n, antimony lead sulfide (Min.) boulanger-ite. [Pg.400]

In the past, reducing the sulfur content was mainly concerned with the heaviest products, most particularly the fuel oils. This development is explained by a legitimate concern to reduce SO2 emissions, notably in areas around large population centers. This is how low sulfur heavy fuels —having a maximum of 2% sulfur— and very low sulfur ( % sulfur) came into being. Currently the whole range of petroleum products, particularly motor fuels, should be strongly desulfurized for reasons we will explain hereafter. [Pg.252]

Sulfur containing heterocycles are also common Compounds m which sulfur is the heteroatom m three four five and six membered rings as well as larger rings are all well known Two interesting heterocyclic compounds that contain sulfur-sulfur bonds are hpoic acid and lenthiomne... [Pg.132]

Although a variety of oxidizing agents are available for this transformation it occurs so readily that thiols are slowly converted to disulfides by the oxygen m the air Dithiols give cyclic disulfides by intramolecular sulfur-sulfur bond formation An example of a cyclic disulfide is the coenzyme a lipoic acid The last step m the laboratory synthesis of a lipoic acid IS an iron(III) catalyzed oxidation of the dithiol shown... [Pg.650]

Rapid and reversible making and breaking of the sulfur-sulfur bond is essential to the biological function of a lipoic acid... [Pg.651]

Lead dioxide Aluminum carbide, hydrogen peroxide, hydrogen sulfide, hydroxylamine, ni-troalkanes, nitrogen compounds, nonmetal halides, peroxoformic acid, phosphorus, phosphorus trichloride, potassium, sulfur, sulfur dioxide, sulfides, tungsten, zirconium... [Pg.1209]

Perchlorates Carbonaceous materials, flnely divided metals particularly magnesium and aluminum, sulfur, benzene, oleflns, ethanol, sulfur, sulfuric acid... [Pg.1211]
